Seven Ways to Welcome Fall with Help From Local Businesses

While we may be in the midst of Virginia’s infamous “false fall” these cooler temperatures have us dreaming of all the ways we plan to welcome in the most beautiful season of all. From fall foliage displays to pumpkin farms, haunted streets painted with fall leaves to oyster roasts and Brunswick stew gatherings, Richmond during the fall is a magical time. Below are a few of our favorite ways to help usher in the most vibrant of seasons.

Toast to Autumn with Apple Cider

Second to pumpkins, few things evoke the feelings of fall quite like apples do. Kick-start the autumn season with Blue Bee Cider’s Harvest Party on Saturday, October 2 and enjoy live apple pressing, the release of their 2020 vintage of Harvest Party Cider, as well as good food and live music.

Pumpkins, But Make them Glam

Adding a little festive flair is a quick way to freshen things up for the new season. These jewel-toned velvet pumpkins from Fraîche are the perfect addition to tablescapes, bookshelves, and entryways - and they are sure to last the whole season.

Sweet Potato Pie

Sweeten up the season with the locally-made sweet potato pie that everyone’s talking about. Joyebell’s Sweet Potato Pies are made from a family recipe passed down through six generations and available at markets and stores throughout Central Virginia.

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

’Tis the season for pumpkin spice lattes and cold foam beverages from Whisk. While you’re there, be sure to pick up a pumpkin cream cheese muffin for the most delicious breakfast or snack.

Fall Foliage Picnic

Pick up lunch or snacks from Union Market and head to Libby Hill park for some of the best views of changing fall colors in the city.

Fire Pit Season

There’s nothing quite like cuddling up around a fire pit with a cozy blanket with a warm beverage and some snacks. Pleasants Hardware has fire pits for every budget, ready to go, and perfect for the cool fall nights.

Light up a Candle

There’s something about fall that makes you want to snag a brand new candle in a cozy fall scent and stay home. These locally made scents available at Ladles & Linens Kitchen Shoppe will look just as good on your coffee table when they aren’t lit.
