IT'S TIME TO SUPPORT LOCAL (shop safe, fast, and local now)

Seven Reasons to Fall in Love with Local Businesses this Fall

The start of a new school year is also a good time to start new routines. Spending more money with local businesses is always a good routine to begin, or ramp up - particularly as we begin to head into the holiday shopping season. Below are seven reasons why you should fall in love with local businesses this fall.

Neighborly Support
Local businesses are owned by your neighbors, friends, and family. These are the people whose children go to school with your own, who volunteer alongside you with local nonprofits, and who are truly invested in the success of the community because it is their home as well.

Essential Services
When you shop local, approximately $68 out of every $100 stays within the community as opposed to $43 out of $100. This means more money for essential services and jobs such as first responders, education and health services, libraries, road maintenance, and other programs and projects which benefit the community at large.

Small Businesses Support Small Businesses
Local businesses also tend to support other local businesses particularly in utilizing local banks, service providers, and farms compounding the impact of shopping local and further growing the tax base for the community.

The Environment
Shopping local is better for the environment as it creates a smaller carbon footprint because less fuel is needed to transport goods, and often less packaging is used.

Unique Product Selection
Small retailers offer a more unique product selection than national retailers who all carry the same thing. Local shops are more likely to carry obscure or up and coming brands, and even local artists which makes them the perfect place to find a one-of-a-kind gift for that hard to shop for person.

Personalized Service
Because local businesses innately have a better understanding of the community and the people within it, customer service at local businesses is often much more personalized and attentive. Local businesses are also much more likely to go above and beyond to win a sale than a big box store would.

Vibrant Community
Small businesses contribute to the overall character and uniqueness of our community. They make Richmond, Richmond and help cultivate a vibrant place to live and to visit, which in turn helps drive tourism and tourism dollars to the city.
