There’s something magical about baseball in the springtime. The smell of freshly cut grass, the sounds of the crack of the bat and the buzz of the lights, and the unmistakable energy that zings through the crowd as we root for the home team. It’s been a long two years without baseball games here in Richmond, but thankfully our beloved Flying Squirrels are finally coming out of their extended hibernation and giving us all a reason to cheer with recent game and ticket announcements.
A limited number of individual game tickets for the first four homestands of the 2021 Richmond Flying Squirrels season will go on sale Monday, April 19 at 9am. These games include the May 4-9 series against the Hartford Yard Goats, the May 18-23 series against the Bowie Baysox, the June 1-6 series against the Altoona Curve, and the June 8-13 series against the Harrisburg Senators.
“We are so excited to be back, even though we never left and were a big part of the community over the last year,” Flying Squirrels CEO Todd “Parney” Parnell said in a statement. “The Squirrels taking the field again on May 4 will be a big step for community healing. We are not through COVID yet, and we will be enacting protocols to allow for a safe environment for everyone at The Diamond. With limited capacity, tickets will be more sought after than ever. We ask fans for their patience as we work through this unusual process.”
Individual tickets may be purchased online or by phone at 804.359.FUNN(3866) and the full 2021 Flying Squirrels schedule can be found here. Tickets for the remaining 2021 home games will be available at a later date. Pursuant to local guidelines from the state, capacity at all games will be limited to just under 3,000 fans and masks will be required at all times unless a person is actively eating or drinking, or a health condition precludes them from doing so.
But that’s not all that’s going on at The Diamond these days. Every Thursday River City Festivals will be hosting a Food Truck Rally from 11am until 7pm (3pm when the Squirrels have a home game) with delicious eats for the whole family and on Saturdays, River City Festivals is hosting PopUp Market from 10am until 4pm (3pm when the Squirrels are playing at home) with a rotating roster of local makers and artisans, plus food and beer/wine trucks.
