Meet a Business is a new series featuring the person behind some of your favorite locally-owned businesses.
What is your name?Lindsay Miller
What's your hometown?
What is your business name?
The Boho Basement
How many years have you owned/managed your business?
What did you want to be as a child?
I feel like this changed so many times I can't even remember. I definitely didn't see myself staying in retail, though!
What is the most popular item you sell?
We definitely sell more furniture than anything, and I would say the most "sought after" piece would be chest of drawers. Someone always needs a fun chest of drawers!
What local business can you not live without?
Rostov's and the Trolley Market - they fuel my workday!
What's the first thing you do every morning to set the tone for your day?
Shower and try to go over everything in my head. I swear I always have hundreds of "internet tabs" open up there.
What tool, object, or ritual could you not live without in your workday?
A measuring tape! Although I always seem to misplace it.
How did you come up with the name for your business?
We played off the location (we're in a basement), and chose "boho" because that vibe is so diverse and eclectic, which is exactly what we love.
How did you get the idea for your business?
As makers ourselves, we saw the opportunity to open a space that not only revolved around the many artisans in Richmond, but also really help cater to them and truly value them. We want them to succeed, which in turn helps us succeed.
What does the world need more of?
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
To fly. Although I'm kinda if-y with heights, so maybe I need to rethink that?
What's your favorite thing to do in Richmond when you're not in your business?
Eat. I've always loved eating out. And Richmond has sooo many options.
Who do you look up to and why?
My parents. They go through life and it's many obstacles with such grace and kindness.
What do you love most about Richmond?
What's the best thing about being a local business owner?
Our business is fueled by amazing makers and artisans. At one point, that was me. Looking to sell my passion in just about anywhere. Now that I have a store, it truly makes my day to be someone else's opportunity. To be able to give someone that first chance, or maybe even their big break. Someone did that for me once, and it pushed me here.
