Being an embroidery/monogramming store in the south - "The Monogram" whether it is on my customers items or products in the store.
What local business can you not live without?
All those wonderful Restaurants and Breweries
What tool, object, or ritual could you not live without in your workday?
Pair of trimming scissors. Everything we do has to look perfect.
How did you come up with the name for your business?
Back in the days of the Yellow Pages we wanted to be listed first. So the letter A what would appropriate? So we came up with Atlantic. Embroidery is self explanatory, and Works, well we just had Atlantic Embroidery and someone said "that works " so Works just kind of finished it off, plus there was another company at the time with the same name.
How did you get the idea for your business?
I have always been in the fashion industry both here and in England. It was time 14 years ago to be able to create my own brand and identity.
What does the world need more of?
Compassion
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Run fast.
What's your favorite thing to do in Richmond when you're not in your business?
Coaching. I currently coach JV Field Hockey and Soccer over at Collegiate.
What was the first concert you ever attended?
Grateful Dead in DC - Sting opened up for them.
Who do you look up to and why?
At this present time all the people on the frontline. All those wonderful nurses.
What do you love most about Richmond?
Good People, Good Beer , Location close to both the Ocean and Mountains and a great place for your kids to grow up
What's the best thing about being a local business owner?
Freedom to be creative and not have to ask if it is ok, and the folks I employ, we like to think that we are small creative family.
